1990 C&C 34+ | Yanmar 27hp | Extensively Updated | Raymarine Axiom, Autopilot & Radar | Lithium Batteries & Solar | Tecumseh, ON
This is not the original C&C 34. Kraken the Wine is a 1990 C&C 34+ — a different Rob Ball's design, and one of his favorite designs. The earlier 34 was a 33'6" boat with a 26-foot waterline. The 34+ is closer to 36 feet, with a 35'6" LOA, a 30'7" waterline, a reverse transom, and a taller rig. Hull and deck are a biaxial fiberglass-Kevlar hybrid laminate with unidirectional glass in high-stress areas, balsa core, and Hydrex isophthalic gelcoat. Only 55 have been built in this exact model. If you have been shopping C&C 34 listings, this is not the same boat.
Ready for cruising or racing, with multiple upgrades in the last six years. Powered by a Yanmar 3GM30F with a Max Prop 3-blade rebuild (2025). Sail inventory includes two mains (one full batten), #1, #2, #3, spinnaker and gennaker, plus an adjustable whisker pole and carbon fibre spinnaker pole. Rod standing rigging, Navtec hydraulic backstay, Harken roller furling, and all lines led aft to the cockpit. Electronics include a Raymarine Axiom 9" chartplotter on a Seaview pod with swivel, Evolution autopilot, i70S displays, wind package, HD radar, and AIS. Cruising gear is aboard: full cockpit enclosure, Dickinson BBQ, fold-down leafed teak cockpit table, Sea Dek, Lewmar electric windlass, Bruce anchor, and bow washdown.
Below deck, a two-cabin, one-head interior finished in rich teak cabinetry with teak and holly sole. The aft cabin is a large bi-directional king-size berth, 6'6" (78") W x 7'10" (92") L, with foam replaced in 2024. Forward is a 6'4" V-berth. The salon has a large L-shaped settee to port, bench settee to starboard, and a centerline leaf table with built-in liquor storage. The L-shaped galley has a gimballed Force 10 3-burner propane stove with oven and a top-loading NovaKool 12V fridge. The head is a molded compartment with a separate shower stall. Systems include lithium house batteries, Victron charging, solar, a 2025 rudder rebuild, new lower rudder bushing, Hempel antifouling, a galvanic isolator, and an enlarged engine access door (2023).

These two models are often confused because they share a designer, a builder, and almost the same name. They are not the same boat. C&C kept “34” on the new model even though it is closer to 36 feet; the factory also called it the 34/36. The original 34 is a 1977–83 design. The 34+ is a new Rob Ball design from 1989, with new molds, a new hull, and a new interior.
C&C 34 (the older boat)
• Built about 1977–1983; hundreds were made
• 33'6" long, about 26' of waterline
• Conventional fiberglass construction
• Traditional transom
• Chainplates typically through the deck and onto plywood bulkheads — a known leak and bulkhead-rot point
• Typical layout of that era: V-berth forward, quarter berth aft — not a private aft cabin
• Usually a Universal Atomic 4 gas engine from the factory
• A good, well-liked club boat. Rob Ball later described it as a “basic sailboat”
C&C 34+ (this boat)
• Built about 1989–1993; only about 55 Plus models
• 35'6" long, about 30'7" of waterline — nearly 5 more feet in the water, so she sails like a bigger boat
• Reverse transom with a walk-through transom
• Taller rig and more sail (669 sq ft vs 517 sq ft)
• Fiberglass-Kevlar hull and deck with a balsa core — stiffer construction than the original 34
• Chainplates set well inboard and tied to the hull with stainless rods, not hung on a plywood bulkhead. That means a better load path, tighter headsail sheeting, and clearer side decks
• Modern two-cabin layout: private king-size aft cabin, separate head with shower
• Yanmar diesel
Same name family. Different size, different build, different boat. If a listing just says “C&C 34” and shows a 1978–82 year, that is the older model. Kraken the Wine is the later 34+.
